Anon, Barranco de los Pinos, Zurgena

10/12/2007

We went on a viewing trip with a UK company to Almeria in October 2005. Through their agents in Spain we put a deposit on a plot. We are purchasing an off-plan villa at Barranco de Los Pinos near Taberno. A month before completion the Junta de Andalucia closed the site – Nov 06. The developer obtained all his licenses from Zurgena Council who are in dispute with the Junta regarding illegal builds.

Our solicitors told us that the builders didn’t give bank guarantees and yet we now know that it has been law since 1968 for the developer to give them.

We are in the UK waiting a decision between the Junta de Andalucia and Zurgena council. It is now over a year since our site was closed and we are still awaiting the outcome. To date we have spend £150k of our savings, we only had the final payment to make. We are retired and hope this dispute will end soon as our life is on hold. We are worried that the outcome will be that we will lose the villa and we won’t get any money back as we’ve read such horror stories in the press and on the forums. The corruption in Spain seems to be dreadful.
